ECTS Credit Allocation

European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is a student-centered credit system based on the workload of the student. It is a value that covers all the work (theoretical course, practice, seminar, individual study, exams, assignments, etc.) that a student must do in order to successfully complete a course. The important criterion in determining this value is learning outcomes. The time spent by a student to achieve learning outcomes determines the ECTS value of a course. In other words, the basic criterion in determining ECTS credits is 'student workload'.Cyprus West University has been implementing the European Credit Transfer system, which is an important part of the Bologna process, since 2018. How to calculate ECTS credits has been revised with the regulation accepted by our University Senate, and with the new regulations made in 2019, the workload distribution of the courses has been rearranged according to the competency levels and program gains determined by ECTS Guide and Turkey Higher Education Qualifications Framework. The total credits of all courses required to be taken in an academic year are 60; All courses required per semester are arranged to be 30 ECTS credits. An academic year has been accepted as 1500 hours / 60 ECTS, a semester as 750 hours / 30 ECTS. At Cyprus West University, 1 ECTS has been accepted as equivalent to 25 hours and a table has been created as follows.
